Itaú BBA creates the Bioinsumos line, a product that reinforces the bank’s sustainability strategy by aligning national technology with the preservation of biodiversity and the concept of low carbon agriculture

São Paulo, May 22, 2023 – Itaú BBA launched, in partnership with Agrivalle, the Bioinsumos line to encourage the sale and use of this category of inputs in production systems. The first sales operation has already been carried out with the client Nutrien and presents to the market another possibility for low carbon agriculture. The alternative arrives with incentivized options and differentiated commercial conditions, as it is part of Itaú BBA’s ESG strategy for the Agribusiness segment.

“The objective is to stimulate and recognize the adoption of new technologies by our clients in the direction of an even more efficient agriculture and cattle-raising, in terms of carbon emissions”, says Pedro Fernandes, Director of Agribusiness at Itaú BBA. Among the main benefits of biological inputs are the reduction in the use of pesticides and synthetic fertilizers (finite sources), favoring the natural cycle of nutrients and efficiency in the use of fertilizers and water, and building soilorganic matter (carbon fixation).

The green products shelf – aimed at the adoption of good agricultural and cattle raising production practices – has the purpose of giving scale to this financing model in the sector. To this end, in partnership with the Institute of Forestry and Agricultural Management and Certification (Imaflora), five priority themes were defined for the creation of these lines: biodiversity, animal welfare, water resources, energy efficiency, and low carbon farming practices, which are included here.

To arrive at the current product, Itaú BBA signed a partnership with Agrivalle in 2022, an agro-industry exclusive producer of biological inputs. As a result of this associative agenda, a plan was designed to encourage the adoption of this technology in the sector to promote, through finance, practices that contribute to the sustainable development of Brazilian agribusiness.
